Coles Centenary Banquet 2013

Thursday 4th July 2013 saw Coles Nurseries invite over 100 individuals, all of whom have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Coles over the last 100 years - be they customer, supplier, previous employee or associate - to come together to celebrate our 100 year anniversary with us at the Coles Centenary Banquet.

The event took place at Beedles Lake Golf Centre, a picturesque venue overlooking a beautiful tree-lined lake. The weather was perfect for the occasion, with guests enjoying welcome drinks and canapés by the side of the lake upon arrival.

Two special guest speakers further enhanced the evening. Dr Stephen Duckworth OBE gave a stirring speech on managing change, relating to Coles’ 100 year history and the current pressures on the industry. The second speaker, Mr Roy Lancaster OBE, gave a fascinating talk, focusing on ten different plants representing the ten decades of Coles Nurseries, and the stories behind their discovery.

Managing Director James Coles closed the evening, giving a talk enjoyed by all, and finishing with the raffle draw for a Lions Rugby Shirt signed by Captain Finlay Calder and Dean Richards (both of the 1989 squad), donated by HSBC. All in all, the evening raised over £650 for Perennial (Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society), bringing the total raised by Coles this year to over £1,200.

“We would like to thank all of our staff, speakers and guests for making the evening as enjoyable as it was. Here’s to the next hundred years!” James Coles.
